Maker Quill is written by a software engineer who builds small online projects on the side. The premise is simple: a lot of people are trying to build an income online with a small stack of software, and most of what's written about that software is either the vendor's marketing or a listicle assembled from it. I buy the tools, use them on real projects for at least a month, and write down what actually happened.

Right now that means AI voice and video tools, YouTube production and monetization, newsletter platforms, course and community software, and the automation that glues it together. The topics follow whatever I'm building at the time.

How a test works

• Paid plan, not a trial. Run for at least 30 days on something that gets published.
• Same brief for every tool in a comparison. One script, one set of inputs, so the differences come from the tool.
• Output shown, not described. Voice samples, rendered clips, analytics screenshots.
• Rechecked when vendors change pricing or features. Every post shows its last update.

How the site is paid for

Some links are affiliate links. When you sign up through one, the vendor pays a commission and your price stays the same. The full list of programs is public. If a tool isn't worth the money, the post says so, commission or not.
